The MayorThe event was officially opened at 5pm on Thursday 13th September 2012 by the Mayor of Hinckley & Bosworth, Martin Cartwright and his consort.

As the day we opened coincided with the launch of CAMRA's prestigious 2013 Good Beer Guide, we took the opportunity to invite all the licensees of our 7 entries to join us for the opening. David, our Chairman, presented the licensees with their award packs and a copy of the 2013GBG. Unfortunately Simon Clough from the Rising Sun, Shackerstone was away on holiday and the licensees of the Queens Head in Hinckley did not attend.

pump clipAs we opened there were 66 beers on the racking and 23 ciders/perries, including a Festival Special brewed at Tunnel Brewery by some of our lady members and ably assisted by Bob & Mike from the brewery. Due to the history of Hinckley and the Atkins Building in particular it was aptly named 'Stocking Top'. It proved to be very popular and went on to be voted Beer of the Festival. Read about it here. We were also treated? to a visit from the the pump clip model, suitably attired, and a lovely girl he was - look out Betty Stogs!!

On the Friday night a quarter peal was rung at St. Mary's Church in Hinckley in honour of the Festival by the Hinckley District Bellringers - very kind of them but I suspect it was just a way of working up a thirst.....

I must, at this point, thank all the local businesses and individuals who generously helped us through 'Sponsor a Cask'.

There were around 1600 visitors over the 3 days, they drank over 4000 pints of beer, almost 1000 pints of cider and 40 bottles of Fruit Wine. Over 50 of our 300 branch members helped towards the festival in various ways - a big 'Thank You' to them all!

Dukes Jetty:
Our band for Friday evening failed to materialise and, more to the point, failed to let us know that they were stranded in Spain and unable to get back to UK. If you came to the Festival for the band, then I'm sure they would like to apologise to all of us!

Finally - a date for your diary: 6th Hinckley Beer Festival 12-14 September 2013

In April 2013, our Chairman David, presented a cheque for £240.21 to Westfield Community Centre in respect of Beer Token donations made at the festival. Our thanks to everyone who donated.
