25 Ciders plus Perries and Fruit Wines

Beer & Cider List

Venue:

The 6th Hinckley CAMRA Beer Festival was opened at 5pm on Thursday 12th September 2013 by David Tredinnick MP, who then became one of the forty eight who joined CAMRA during the festival. After the opening, Jeff Bannister the Deputy Mayor, presented Good Beer Guide packs to our seven pubs who were successful this year, including one newcomer, The George & Dragon, Stoke Golding.

We opened with 70 casks from 35 breweries. We were responsible for judging the East Midlands Champion Best Bitter, the unanimous winner after great deliberation, was Hydro from Ashover Brewery which is situated behind the Old Poet's Corner pub

Thursday was a steady evening with almost exactly the same number of visitors as last year. Unfortunately it rained on Friday evening, so numbers were down a bit, but this was more than compensated for on Saturday when the sun shone and numbers were well up.

The change in layout proved popular with the addition of live music in the marquee on Friday & Saturday.

By the end of Saturday most of the beers and all the ciders had been drunk.

The Champion Beer of the Festival, in a vote open to everyone who attended, was Dark Deeds a 4.6% Porter from the new Dem Bones brewery in Leicester

The volunteer staff all enjoyed the event as, we hope, did all the visitors. Next year's provisional dates are 11th - 13th September 2014, we hope to see you there..........

New Festival Poster:
Last year Hinckley & Bosworth CAMRA invited the Creative ArtsDepartment at North Warwickshire & Hinckley College to design a new logo and poster for the annual Hinckley Beer Festival. The initiative was led by CAMRA member Barbara Bowley, who approached the Programme Leader for Graphic Design at the College, Andy Ainslow, and set out the guidelines.  Under Andy’s guidance, the students from different year groups developed and realised their ideas. After seeing each student’s work, a short list was drawn up for the Beer Festival Committee, who decided on the winning design.

Chairman David presents Mat with his prize watched by Chris, Hinckley Beer Festival Organiser

On the 21st May presentations were made at the College to the winner and runners up. Beer Festival Officer, Chris James, and Chairman, David Finn, presented vouchers to the runners up, Simon Turton and Alex Bennett, and the winner, Mat Gilbey, received his vouchers and a year’s membership of the Campaign for Real Ale. Chris thanked Andy and the students for their efforts and for producing such an outstanding portfolio of work. On behalf of the college, Andy agreed it had been a very worthwhile experience for the students and welcomed the link that had been created with CAMRA in the local community.
