8th Hinckley CAMRA Beer Festival

September 2015

The Festival opened with 71 real ales and 31 ciders/perries. Our Hinckley brewery, Elliswood, had their own section of bar with five of their beers on offer.
The festival was officially opened by Richard Clarke, the Press & PR Manager of Vulcan to the Sky Trust, whose office is currently located in Hinckley. After explaining the aims of his charity he presented our GBG entrants with their licensee packs & a copy of GBG 2016.

On Friday evening Mothers Ruin performed in the marquee to an appreciative crowd.
The first beer to sell out on Friday evening was Nene Valley Bitter, a best bitter at 4.0% which had been voted East Midlands champion beer at the judging that had taken place in the marquee the previous day.
Overall we had another successful festival with 1550 visitors from as far as London, Norwich, Bedford & one Englishman who lives in Denmark.

They consumed 3982 pints and more than 1000 pints of cider. They bought over £2000 of merchandise (commemorative glasses, shirts and CAMRA books).

Champion Beer of the Festival was Blue Monkey Chocolate Guerrilla, a 4.9% A.B.V. Stout with Sperrin Nice Rub Down, 4.2% A.B.V. Best Bitter a close second.
We had sponsors for all the beers. We are, as always, very grateful for the response we get to this scheme from local businesses and individuals.
On the Thursday afternoon we were given the responsibility of judging the East Midlands Best Bitter. A team of six were assembled and they took their job very seriously. The outcome was: Gold – Nene Valley Bitter at 4.0%, Silver – Castle Rock Elsie Mo 4.7%, Bronze – Belvoir Beaver at 4.3%
Our thanks to everyone who helped in any way to make this Festival a great success and, of course, to everyone who came and helped drink the beers and ciders. We hope to see you all again next year when the 9th Hinckley CAMRA Beer Festival will be held on 15, 16 & 17 September 2016.
